Conference Weekend

I was lucky enough to go on a last minute trip with my friend Liz to conference. Our weekend in Utah was quite memorable!
We met at a restaurant 2 other mommies with angel heart babies. We showed up to the restaurant and 5:15 and left at 10, there was much to be discussed! We shared our stories and surprisingly there were no tears. Liz and I couldn't come without gifts so we brought for them necklaces with a charm of a picture of their girlie. They turned out really cute, we hope they love them! Liz surprised me and made one for me as well. The waiter probably thought we were a little strange matching. Whatever, we had fun! Pretty sure we're all new best friends!

One bed, two girls.

Friday morning we went to a live temple session. It was different but good, we'd never done a session in any temple other than Mesa. The art work was amazing and I loved how the floors creaked when walked on. What sacrifices must have been made to build such lovely, intricate art!

These are our other new friends we met this weekend. Unfortunately Mindi, the cute one with the purse, is also a heart mom. We met her through the blogging world and were so anxious to finally meet her in person. Her girlie is Libbi, who is doing well by the way. This family was amazingly sweet and accommodating to us. We love them and are already planning road trips to hang out again!

This is what we woke up to Saturday morning, snow. Yuck! It must have snowed 3 inches while we were snoozing and continued to snow most of the morning which made waiting in line for conference absolutely freezing! We're from Arizona, who has clothes for the snow? I certainly don't! My 2 pair of tights, 3 shirts, and jacket wasn't enough to keep me from shivering.

Saturday afternoon we had killer tickets, we were on the 15ish row on the floor! You know those huge projection screens for most of the people who aren't close enough to see the color of the speakers eyes? Yeah, we didn't need those, we were right there!

Liz and I found it no coincidence that we were there in person to hear Elder Scott's talk. We're pretty sure he had us in mind while he wrote it! We decided we simply HAD to meet him and nothing would stop us. So at the conclusion of the meeting we pushed our way to the front where some security dude told us there was no way we were getting passed him. I even pulled my Jersey card but was unsuccessful. We decided another route to the very front might be more productive and it certainly was! After waiting for half an hour we got to shake his hand and get a squeeze from him. We didn't do much talking as we were to busy crying, we briefly explained we too had heart angels and that's about where our talking ended. He was so sweet and said, "The pain lessons and the memories become more vivid." It's no coincidence Liz and I were there together, sitting up front for this talk, and that he's the only apostle that mingles with the crowd enabling us to meet him. We think Jake and Jersey definitely had a hand in this! :)

Sunday morning we were seated in time to watch The Spoken Word which is mostly the Tabernacle Choir singing. Lovely!

It finally quite snowing and being wintry on Sunday. The view from the second floor of the Conference Center after the morning session. I love the crowds of people. It's so much easier to stay at home in a warm house, in pajamas to watch conference but thousands of people brave the frigid temperatures and long distances to see and hear the prophet speak. An older sister missionary told us of one lady who saved for 25 years to make this trip!

We didn't have tickets for the Sunday morning session so we made this fabulous sign and held it high. It worked, we got tickets! People couldn't resist our pink, sparkly sign!

You are TOTALLY my favorite daughter now! And I'm quite sure Skylee's new favorite sister. Keep hanging in there and believing and being amazing! You are a darling girl. We lived in UT for 10 years and I remember feeling the torture of being dragged downtown in the snow to sit through hours of conference talks. It's only when you get older that you come to appreciate all those years of 'torture' and I thank my parents for giving us those experiences.

I'm so thrilled that you and Liz got to go this year and together. I'm glad you have eachother to lean on, vent to and seek comfort with.

So fun that you were able to meet up with Michele in Utah and have dinner.

Oh.. and I am totally impressed with your skills to snag up tickets with a sparkly sign and sneak a meeting with Elder Scott!!

How funny that you made a sign for tickets ! I went about 7 years ago, while my Husband was on his mission. A few friends and I walked around Temple Square and a really nice lady came up to us and offered us her tickets. We were so surprised and we were SO excited to go. The one thing that I wasn't expecting was how packed the conference center was. And I was also surprised at how bright it is in there. When you watch it on TV, you would think it is dark in the room. But it wasn't. And it is surprisingly noisy with everyone talking in the audience. I was just surprised at how it wasn't anything like I thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong, it was a wonderful experience and I am so happy we got to go. We got to see President Hinckley on the stage and he lifted his cane and waved at everyone.

I am very jealous you go a picture with Richard G Scott !

That trip looks amazing. That is so neat you met other wonderful ladies, and Gracies Mom. She is so inspirational just as you are too. I am so glad you guys have found each other. Never before have I felt conference talks hit home so hard. They were all so comforting in these times. I thought of you and everyone who has lost a loved one during Elder Scotts talk. What a man he is and his wife to endure the loss of 2 in a row. I am so glad you were there, that was meant to be. Praying for you-Jenna

Definately no coincidence at all, it's amazing how those tender mercies come right when we need them most. What an amazing weekend, I can only imagine what a difference it must make to know that you're not alone and to be able to share your feelings knowing that your friends know exactly what you're going through. And I don't know how to knit, but I would love to learn and would LOVE to help out. I'm sure we could get the Young Women involved too, we're always looking for service projects. We'll chat!

Looks like you had a great trip overall!! And of course the highlight had to be your 5 hour Macaroni Grill dinner right? Thanks so much for the invite to dinner and I absolutely LOVE my Gracie necklace!! SOOOOO cool about Elder Scott. I can't believe you got to meet him! Hope to see you guys again soon!

What a blessing this trip was for you! The only part of conference that I missed were the last few Saturday talks. I have *just now* read them because of your post. Of course, I'm now a blurry-eyed mess. ;) I am so very grateful that you got to meet Elder Scott. Truly, that meeting was meant to be. I'm so grateful that you shared your experience with his talk, because it prompted me to read it now, rather than when the Ensign came, and it was something I needed. Thank you, Heidi!

I guess you had better get used to the double-layered tights if you're going to be moving up there. Of course, you could always stay here! :)

I didn't know you got to do this... what a fabulous trip! And I bet that talk and meeting Elder Scott just filled your cup to the point of overflowing. How amazing and such a special experience to share with a dear friend who understands. I really know that these are the experiences that make you have a little glimpse that their are no coincidences and its all being orchestrated by our Heavenly Father, especially when we ask and are in a place to receive it. You are so beautiful Heidi and I am so thankful we are friends!
