So, I'd very much like to do a Christmas in July for all the sweet heart babies and their parents at St. Joe's hospital but I need some help coming up with fun, inexpensive, creative things to do/bring. The only thing I can really think of is eye covers for the parents, it's so bright in those rooms and it makes sleeping difficult! For the babies I could only come up with beanies for their little heads. Does anybody know how to crochet/knit those? I need to learn! They can rarely wear socks, clothes, or hand covers and they already get several blankets. If you have any brilliant ideas or not so brilliant ideas please let me know! Times ticking and I should probably get started soon!
Thanks friends!!

Such a neat idea. I know that you can buy these little plastic thingys that help you make knitted baby hats. Kinda like the pot-holder makers we all had when we were little. Let me know if you'd like me to find those for you. Or any other way I could help.

You can use Knifty Knitters by Provo Craft or make your own looms to do the hats with. You can whip out either of the small baby hats in about 30 minutes or less once you get the hang of it. You can find them at Michaels or Joanns.

A GREAT idea! I have never made them, but I have a crochet pattern for the most darling little beanies. They have a little visor! We could have a girls night and learn. I'd love to help.

Would it be weird to collect DVD's for the parents to watch to help get their mind off things and for some entertainment? I don't know if it's appropriate or not, but i love a good comedy when things are not going my way.

I think a nice soothing CD is great for all. If you let Starbucks or a local coffee house know what you are doing they may donate some goodies for the staff and parents to enjoy. Etsy has sooooo many ideas. I got some great ideas for a similar project. Cup cozies, homemade soaps, bibs, burp clothes, etc. Maybe a professional photographer could donate time to take a special picture. Some never get their classic milestone pictures done due to hospital stays. Good Luck

Hey Heidi! I would suggest one of Ellery's favorite items when she was stuck on the breathing tube for so long and it was flavored chapstick! She was NPO for 50 days so I think the fruity flavor was refreshing and she LOVED it!

What a great idea! I'd love to help in any way. I remember you saying you always had music playing for Jersey. My friend did this for another hospital where she made CD's for the little babies and families to listen too. If you wanted I could see if she'd be willing to just make some more copies of what she's already burned.

I thought of another idea. How about getting the parents journals to write down their feelings or even a note book and pen. Just a thought....

Just another heart mom you do not know...sometimes I like to take "surprise" baskets up to heart families at our hospital... some of the items I include are music (always Paul Cardall's primary music CD), chapstick, a journal/pens, water bottles, snacks/treats, front button-up onsie's (for when the babies can start wearing an outfit, these work great around tubes),a small 3x5 picture of Christ holding an infant child to his chest, a hand/foot print set for the parents to make of their child's hands/feet, etc...let me know if I can help in any way!
