A Pair of Shoes
I am wearing a pair of shoes.
They are ugly shoes.
Uncomfortable shoes.
I hate my shoes.
Each day I wear them and each day I wish I had another pair.
Some days my shoes hurt so bad that I do not think I can take another step.
Yet, I continue to wear them.
I get funny looks wearing these shoes.
I can tell in others eyes that they are glad they are my shoes and not theirs.
They never talk about my shoes.
To learn how awful my shoes are might make them uncomfortable.
To truly understand these shoes you must walk in them.
But, once you put them on you can never take them off.
I now realize that I am no the only one who wears these shoes.
There are many pairs in this world.
Some women ache daily as they try and walk in them.
Some have learned how to walk in them so they don't hurt quite as much.
Some have worn the shoes so long that days will go by before they think about how
much they hurt. No woman deserves to wear these shoes.
Yet, because of these shoes I am a stronger woman.
These shoes have given me the strength to face anything.
They have made me who I am.
I will forever walk in the shoes of a woman who has lost a child.

Beautiful and true.
Profound! Wishing there were a tangible way to lighten your load or ease your steps. I ache for you every time I think of sweet Jersey!
This is a beautiful poem! Thanks for sharing it with me!!
Love ya!!
Aw Heidi, that was such a touching poem. I also hate that we wear these shoes. But at the same time, we are so blessed to wear these shoes. We have angel babies. Children who were too perfect for this world. Daughters who will always be safe and will never have their hearts broken. They are with our Father in Heaven. It's hard to think about, but my heart thanks the Lord for taking my little Girl and keeping her safe for me. I am so thankful she never had to live with the physical abnormalities she might have had if she would have survived. She and Jersery are perfect. I can't wait for the day that we can sit with our angels together.
Do you mind if I post this on my Blog later ?
Very well written. Beautiful.
Sweet Heidi. I think of you often. Hugs to you.

I don't wear those shoes but my heart is with you and everyone who does and has. You are amazing. I always. Have a prayer in my heart for you guys. I hope you are doing ok. Just know one day Heavenly Father will give all of you the most glorious shoes in return for the ones you bare now. Hang in there Heidi. Much Love

Loved the poem. It's true. I also loved what the Milliron mom said. She has a lot of wisdom!
Ah, yes. I, too, wear them. But most of the time, I feel they are the most comfortable shoes I could have. For with Celest I will never share the shouting and misunderstanding of the teenage years, never have to inflict punishment equal to any crime... As her three younger siblings grow I find so many ways to fail as a mother. Not on purpose, naturally, but being human, I falter my fair share. I'm beginning to realize how difficult it is to raise children in today's society and gain a greater respect for it's hazards not only to my kids, but to myself as well. But thankfully, I don't have to be worried about ALL of my children...
Thanks for sharing this Heidi. So true I'm sure.
Love it, so true. Just checking in on you, I think about you often.
p.s. The word verification waiting for me as I type this is GRACI.....can you believe it?
Thank you for sharing this poem with all of us. I have worn these shoes for 5 long years. I like to think that my angel is taking care of all the babies in heaven that don't have their earth Moms to take care of them. She was not able to have babies of her own while she was here and she wanted them so badly. I don't know why but I feel a special connection to you and your family. Thank you for sharing your beautiful family with us. I want you to know that you will never forget the time that you got to spend with Jersey, you will always have your memories.
God be with you and your family

I want you to know that you will never forget the time that you had with Jersey while she was here. You will always have the memories of her. You are lucky that you have your faith and know that you will be able to see your beautiful baby Jersey again.
