Curly Top

I still remember every Saturday night bathing and then sitting in front of the TV while my mom wrapped mine and my sister's hair in pink, spongy curlers. I remember feeling so pretty with my long, curly hair. I just knew everybody was starring at me wishing they looked just as cute.

This is a tradition I'd like to carry on. Tatum's had short hair for quite a while and now that she's growing it it's long enough to curl. She was willing to hold still and even hand me the curlers and thought she looked funny in the mirror. She was worried that they would be uncomfortable to sleep in but thankfully she happily managed. She couldn't wait to take them out. She was SO excited!

I finally took them out and here's the product, tight, ringlet curls. It was all fun and she was full of smiles until it was time to tame the forest of curls.
They proved nearly impossible to manage and a melt down was coming. I wasn't about to let her take a shower and destroy her curly top, I'm mean I know. There were many tears and over and over she said how ugly she looked. "I look like an orphan," she yelled. She didn't, she looked darling. I promised her curls would fall a bit and assured her she'd like them better when they did. I could totally empathize with a bad hair day! Chris managed to get her in the car and we were off to church with an angry girl. She walked in covering her hair and spent the majority of sacrament meeting covering her lovely locks with both arms. Thankfully she got over her bad hair day and went to class. By the end of the day she had gotten such a response from church she decided that she did indeed like her hair but says she's done with the curlers.

Heidi, this is about the time you need to break out some Shirley Temple. I use to always want curls like Shirley's, singing Animal Crackers, while tap dancing. Even though she has swore off curlers now, us girlies know she will be back in time, asking you to curl those locks again. She looked so adorable with all the curls.

Oh I LOVE the curls!!! I was opposite.. my hair was always natural ringlets and my mom would try to straighten it...except they didn't have flat irons back then. So she would just brush out my curls until I had a frizzy afro. It was aweful!!!

Maybe she'll do curlers for halloween?! :)

Tatum is so cute. I have MANY memories of sleeping in the pink spongey curlers too. Makell has worn them a couple of times for dance recitals, etc., but hates wearing them. Maybe if Tatum learns to love them, she could help Makell love them too! I think the end result is adorable:)

Too too cute...especially with those cute bottom teeth missing. WOW those are some ringlets! She's quite the little princess. What sweet memories she now has of HER mommy doing her hair in sponge rollers!

(I could NEVER sleep in those things:-) Its hard to be beautiful, huh?

All of my girls had pink sponge curlers overnight for Sunday and many school days. I would also pull their hair up in a high ponytail and curl the ponytail strands, that way the curlers wouldn't bother them at night. They liked having just the bottom of their hair curled! Tatums hair will have to grow a little for that.

I am laughing so hard right now!!! I can't figure out why she has that big grin if she hated them so much? She's a doll!!! I love the pink curlers but we have never slept in them, only had them in for a couple hours before dance recitals, and i alternate bigger ones with pink. Try that, see if she's happier!

Haha!! I love it! I used the same sponge curlers when I was little. My hair was much longer, so I didn't get the great curls tatum got, but man, those are adorable!!

Those are some tight curls! I remember my mom would do the same. But we should put our hair in a ponytail first and she would just do the "tail"? Maybe that would work better next time.

Ahh yes, I see Eve already commented :) It's true, I did enjoy a good set of sponge curlers in my pony.

Ha! I have the same memories of Saturday nights with my mom. I also have had the same reaction with Alexia. I need to buy bigger sponge rollers and try it again because the curl is so fun.

I laughed out loud on this one. 'I look like an orphan'??? Seriously, she is FUNNY!! Growing up whenever my sister and i came home from getting a perm my dad would sing 'The sun will come out tomorrow....' the ANNIE song!! You know the girl with the tight curly red hair!! It makes me laugh now but it didn't then!!
